Coming back

Hi everyone,

I’m in the peace corps office in Lome(Togo’s capital) right now. I’ve been in Togo for a little under a month. I’m in Lome, instead of my village, because of a tragic event. My father passed away this week. I’ll be heading back to the US on a flight later today. I received the news yesterday and was driven to Lome that day. I don’t really know what to think right now. I was in the middle of my language class yesterday when the PC car pulled up and I was called outside to be told the news. I went to my house and grabbed a backpack and filled it with some essentials and now I’m here. My host mom was at the house and was silent as I grabbed my stuff. I think they told her what happened after I left. It was really weird and hard to be leaving when all the locals were greeting me like they normally do. I was trying not to look off as I greeted them and headed to the car. By now they all probably know that I left and wont be back for a bit. On the ride over I started getting a bunch of texts from the other people in my training group. They are all amazing people and I’m so glad I got to be over here with them. They have no idea how much it means to me to have that support over here.

I talked to my mom and sister last night. They’re getting into Tampa today, and I’ll meet them there tomorrow. I love my dad, and I don’t even feel like this is real right now. Well, I’ll be back home in Florida tomorrow, and I don’t now when exactly I’ll be returning to Togo.
